5 Factors To Consider When Hiring a Home Remodeling Company

Site Administrator • Jun 14, 2022

Finding the right remodeling contractor can be a difficult process. This person will be responsible for remodeling, renovating, or restoring your home, so choosing the right person to work with is integral. What are  five factors to consider when you hire a home remodeling company ? Read on to find out.

How Long Have They Been in Business?

You must think deeply about this factor because it’s not as clear-cut as you think. You don’t want to discount a company simply because it hasn’t been around long. The owner could know exactly what they’re doing because they’ve had prior experience working as an in-house contractor. However, working with a less established company is certainly a gamble when it comes to renovating your home. The truth is newness can   equate to inexperience, so you’ll do a good job checking for reviews or weighing any of the other considerations on this list before you make your decision.

What Do the Reviews Look Like?

Before you even talk to the company’s owner:

  1. Check out the reviews.
  2. Don’t just go to the ones on their website that showcase their most satisfied clients; look for the ones on search engines and websites that will give a balanced perspective.
  3. Scroll to the negative reviews first, check for any patterns that may stick out to you, then   look at positive reviews.

No  outdoor living space contractor  will be perfect, but generally, the positive reviews should outweigh the negative ones.

Are They Licensed or Credentialed?

This information should be visible directly on their website. Under no circumstances should a contractor work on your home without the proper licensing, no matter how good their reviews are. This is nonnegotiable. If their credentials aren’t listed on their website, you should call and ask about this information. Beyond city and state licenses, any non-official licenses and classes they’ve taken should be considered. These additional accreditations show how serious they are about what they do.

Do They Have Liability Insurance?

This is another non-negotiable  factor to consider when hiring a remodeling company  for your needs. If they don’t have liability insurance and workers’ compensation, you’ll be at risk for any accidents. That can cost you thousands of dollars, so this should be one of the first things you consider when hiring.

What’s the Process?

Your contractor should operate in collaboration with you; they should not act as a dictator. It’s your home, and they need to honor your boundaries. They also need to work constructively with any other designers or construction workers that you have hired for the project. They should be able to tell you exactly what they are going to do, how they will do it, and how they can offer helpful input. They shouldn’t trample over your needs.

There’s a lot to consider when you’re thinking about working with a contractor. Some factors are a necessity, and some aren’t. At the end of the day, you need to be happy with who you choose. Follow these tips and listen to your gut, and you’ll do just fine.
